INSTRUCTIONS FOR INSTALLING DRIVER SOFTWARE FOR THE PSION SSD PC INTERFACE
24/8/96

1) Connect the PC-SSD interface to a PC parallel port using a cable with all
   25 pins connected.

2) Run the program TESTSSD.EXE and follow the on-screen instructions. This
will test the interface and confirm communication with an SSD.

3) Copy the driver, SSDDRVR.SYS to your hard disk and add a line of the form:

     devicehigh=c:\ssddrvr.sys /p:1

to your CONFIG.SYS file. The /p:n parameter is the printer port to which
the interface is connected, this may be 1,2 or 3 and is LPT1 in the above
   example

4) If you use Windows 95 add the following line to the [SafeList] section of
the IOS.INI file in the windows directory:

     ssddrvr.sys ; Psion SSD driver

5) Reboot your PC. The driver will be installed and will display the drive
letter allocated to the SSD drive. This drive may be used like any other
   PC drive.

TROUBLE SHOOTING

The interface must be present during boot up or the driver will not be
installed.

If the driver complains that it can't initialise the hardware, check that
your cable has all 25 pins wired. If you are not sure plug the interface
directly onto your PC. If the driver then installs OK the cable is probably
not suitable.

The file ssddrvr.sys may not appear in a Windows 95 window if you have the
show all files option turned off. To access this file either use a DOS window
or turn the show all files option on from the View tab in the View/Options
menu.

If Windows 95 complains that it has found a device driver that it does not
recognise then you have not edited the IOS.INI file correctly.

The drive letter for your CD ROM may change when the driver is installed. If
you want it to be the same with or without the driver installed add or change
the /l:d parameter for the MSCDEX line in your AUTOEXEC.BAT file, where d is
the drive letter for your CD ROM when the driver is installed. If you are
running Windows 95, and therefore not using MSCDEX you can change the drive
letter by opening the Device Manager in the System Control Panel. Click on
the + next to the CDROM icon and double-click on your drive. Select the
Settings tab and adjust the Start drive letter to match the drive allocated
to your CD ROM when the driver is installed.
